From Milan: highway A8 Milano-Varese-Malpensa. To Busto Arsizio, follows the direction Varese. After a great curve to Gallarate to always follow the direction Varese (to the right). After payment toll the 3° exit is Castronno.

From Airport Malpensa: at the end of the Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to follow the indications VARESE MILANO-Highway A8 and to continue up to the end of the bypass road. After the great curve you go to the left and to continue in direction A8 VARESE-Gravellona Toce. To Gallarate after a great curve to always follow the direction Varese (to the right). After payment toll the 3° exit is Castronno.

From Switzerland: Highway Lugano-Chiasso E35-A2. Before Lugano you follow the indication Milan or Chiasso. After Lugano you continue on E35-A2, toward Chiasso, up to Mendrisio. You go out to Mendrisio and continuous up to Stabio-speedway Mendrisio-Stabio (Border of State-Gaggiolo). To the traffic light you turn to the left and you follow the indication for Varese (or Highway A8 Milano-Varese). After the border of state, Italy-Swiss you follow indication Highway A8 Milan Varese. Entry motorway direction Milan, the 2° exit is Castronno (after the distributor of fuel).

From France: From the Tunnel of the White Mountain the highway A5 Torino-Aosta. You cross the connection A4/5. You follow you enter highway A4 Torino-Trieste and you continue for the highway A26 Genova-Gravellona Toce in direction Gravellona Toce. After Borgomanero you follow the highway A8 Milano or Varese. After Besnate there is the deviation for A8 Milan Varese, direction Varese. The 3° exit is Castronno.

We are to Castronno: You go to the left and you continue on the road in direction Gallarate. To the first rotatory it turns to the right (Street Lombardy, then street Rome). You continue then for 1 Km it turns to the left to the rotatory second (Street Monterosa), and subsequently to the rotatory bystander, you go to the right, in descent it is then Via Marconi , Via Galvani, Via Stazione.

In the Via Stazione, among the parking lot and the railway station, turn to the left, in the Via Rimembranze, I am to 50 meters in the road to One Way, to the number 3.

You follow, also, the indication for the Pizzeria Loris or for the railway station, toward the center of Castronno.

Castronno is found on the morainic hills to 300 meters altitude, to half road between the cities of Gallarate and Varese. Its foundation probably goes up again to the Roman epoch. "Castellazzo". It goes up again to the XIII century, it is formed from an enormous barn strengthened endowed with a court, a parvis and a base square turret. "Villa Puricelli". CASTRONNO: HOUSE-TOWER

Site in hilly position, to east of the stream Arno and to equal distance between Gallarate and Varese, the commune probably draws its name from the Latin castrum, even if there is no trace some on the territory of constructions that confirms the etymology of the term, that is to point out a strengthened place.

Place during the Middle Ages inside the Contado of the Seprio, Castronno could dress again functions of sighting and call in the defensive system and of provisioning of the zone, although can also be advanced another hypothesis on the term castrum as “villa” or “farm”, to underline its ancient agricultural vocation.

The churches in this period are those of Sant'Alessandro and of St. Nazaro but him they are not able, anchor, to define parishes, both for the least autonomy from the church plebana (miserable and less evolved people of the population), both for the consequential small income to the chaplain.

Despite the non privileged position, some among the inhabitants of the country had in every case way of climbing in the respect of the gentlemen of Milan, city that assiduously frequented as it results from many documents: a Giovanni de Castrona got in fact from Ludovico Maria Sforza, in 1498, the biennial charge of judge of the provisions in Milan.

It was in this social circle that happened, in 1570, the visit of St. Charles Borromeo, preceded by the visit, of the him appointee, father Leonetto Chiavone, Jesuit, that described the situation of the church, to the bishop, wording the first list of the good possessed by the parish.

It was really following the visit to the parish of Castelseprio that St. Charles it decided to transfer its center to Carnago, because of the by now happened decadence of the ancient head parish; contextually, in the parish files they start to appear the first recordings of the Sacraments imparted on the place.

They existed in this period the Brotherhoods of the SS. Sacrament and of Sant'Orsola and the religious life it knew a period of vigor, also testified by the fact that, already from 1500, work her "Company of the Christian reformation", to instruct the inhabitants of Castronno to the faith. II country constituted part of the feud of Albizzate from when, in 1643, it had been purchased with other territories by the family Viscounti; during the XVII and of the XVIII century they happened a lot of hereditary controversies and claims from pretenders to the feud that they has been resolved in 1751 when, on the cadastral papers wanted by the empress Maria Teresa of Austria, the owners of Castro Castorinotavano were the Archinti.

With the advent of the French armies and the proclamation of the Italian Republic in 1802, the territorial order of the communes that they was submitted was minutely censussed and, from the documents that they concerned, we learn that the number of the inhabitants of Castronno, in 1807, it was of 431 and that their income derived above all from the agriculture.

The productive resources also drew a help from the breeding of the silkworm, thanks to the quality of the mulberries that they grew on the shores of the Arno, but the economic situation didn't know changes of relief up to halves 1800, when the cotton mill has been open, that takings subsequently the denomination “L'Idrofila” and it assumed an increasing importance up to the last postwar period, when it started the decline that provoked subsequently the closing of it.

The flourishing real industry of Castronno is owed however to the mechanical industry.

On the town territory they are present different important mechanical firms and electronics, besides one developed building sector.
